Where Have Healthcare Gift Cards Gone?

In preparation for a webinar TMG is holding this week, I’ve spent quite a bit of time researching new and innovative prepaid cards.

One such innovative card is the Healthcare Gift Card found at www.givewell.com. The card is a Visa branded debit card that is specifically marketed around healthcare and related services. The purchaser chooses the denomination to be loaded on the card and the recipient chooses the health related expenses he or she wants to use it for.

When I went back to the site over the weekend to take some screen shots for the presentation, I found that they are not accepting any new orders.

The company did not provide any reason for this, but using the collective knowledge of our readers, I thought maybe one of you knows the answer.

If you have information you can share about the Healthcare Gift Card or its availability, please post a comment below.

Also, If you are interested in attending our webinar on Wednesday, Capturing New Markets with Prepaid Cards, please email me at jeffr[at]themembersgroup.com for more information.

Very Interesting, I was just thinking about this topic a few days ago, and never thought to check in on the website. I work for a company that manages and tracks gift cards, and I blog about gift card topics on savvywallet.com. A few months ago, when they first introduced them I was skeptical about their success. 1) The fees associated with the healthcard card were high, and they also expired. 2) In addition, they are only accepted in certain places. 3) You can use them at walgrees and etc, however, nothing is stopping your ailing grand mother pick up that carton of cigarettes. The concept of having a health care specific gift card works, but having it under the visa platform is a red flag
